i'm not going to beat the time-gate horse. i just wanted to point out that this is what we're all missing and why the current state of the game seems so hollow.
EDIT: Thanks for the gold, stranger! i wish i had truly done something more than dig up the past to deserve it.
btw, i'm not a hater. i love destiny and had to leave the country for work only 3 days after warmind came out.. so i'm counting the minutes until i get back and can play. if i didn't care, i wouldn't be reading here daily for a small glimmer of changes on the horizon.

Digital Spy has partnered with Destiny YouTuber Arekkz to offer Guardians some expert tips and guidance for Destiny: Rise of Iron.
And there's also some awesome tips and tricks from the community too.
'Rise of Iron is the latest instalment in the Destiny franchise and with it Guardians will experience the story of the Iron Lords, the Fallen and the looming SIVA threat whilst also following the path to becoming an Iron Lord themselves,' explained Arekkz. 'Along the way there are new threats and challenges to deal with, secrets to uncover, and of course, more gear and weapons to earn.
'But with so much to do in a new expansion, where do you begin? Well here are 5 things you need to know about Destiny: Rise of Iron.'
Don't forget to subscribe to Arekkz's YouTube Channel too.
New Max Light Level
To begin with, every new expansion offers a power increase in the form of Light. Once your Guardian hits level 40, their Light increases based on the gear and weapons they equip – Light has a direct impact on your overall power, and as such raising your Light becomes one of your primary goals whilst progressing through the game.
The Light cap in Rise of Iron is now 400, and there are now a vast range of activities that drop gear that will help you progress: the weekly Nightfall Strike and Strike Hoard Chests, Exotic Engrams, Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, the Crucible and of course, the new Raid, Wrath of the Machine – all of these are a source of gear up to 400 Light.
However, if you're still making your way through the game, then there are plenty more activities that will yield gear up to 385 that is still relevant for progression, albeit a stepping stone to the true goal of 400 – namely Archon's Forge, the Heroic Strike playlist and Legendary Engrams. So whether you're playing solo or with friends, prefer PvE or PvP content, there's something for everyone.
New Armor, Weapons & Exotics
'One of the best things about new Destiny expansions are the gear and weapons – with so many new activities, there's tonnes of new loot to earn and collect and a wide variety of new weapons to test out and discover,' said Arekkz.
'As you progress through the story you'll earn Iron Lord gear which is only fitting seeing as you're working on their behalf. There's a whole new set of armour for the Raid, for Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, even Archon's Forge, the new public event space – and all of it is relevant to Guardians looking to increase their power.
'Rise of Iron also sees the addition of Ornaments, a special new item that allows you to change the way certain gears pieces and weapons look – from simple colour changes on Exotic weapons, to more outlandish holographic style projections on armour like the Trials of Osiris stuff – personalisation is a big thing in Rise of Iron, and there are plenty of options to work with.'
Private Matches
'If you want to take a step back from all the serious action for a bit, then Private matches are one of the fan favourite new additions – this is something players have been talking about since Destiny first came out,' explains Arekkz. 'Players now have the ability to host their own matches, with their own custom options.
'This means if you ever wanted to settle that grudge match with your friend, then you can line up that all important 1v1. Perhaps you just want an open field to test out some new weapons that you've earned in a recent activity.
'And of course, one of the really big things – this now lays the foundation for tournaments and eSports options, so no matter how you intend to use them, private matches are a great new addition!'
New Raid: Wrath of the Machine
'Rise of Iron also introduces a brand new Raid – Wrath of the Machine,' said Arekkz. 'Raids in Destiny are large scale dungeons for teams of up to 6 Guardians – they pit you against some of the toughest challenges the game has to offer; there are multiple bosses to fight, mechanics to learn and understand, and of course, loot that you can't get anywhere else.'
'The new Raid strikes a perfect balance between some of the previous offerings providing players with both a challenging yet enjoyable activity that will take time to master, but once you begin to understand the mechanics, and your Guardian becomes more powerful, then there's scope to truly master it and whittle down your completion time with each successful run.
What happened to sandra teen model. 'Not to mention the raid has multiple difficulties – the recently released Heroic difficulty is one of the sources for 400 Light gear making it one of the prime contenders for Guardians looking to hit that all important new cap.'
It Isn't Over Yet
'But if you've done all of that, then there's still more to come!' said Arekkz. 'An expansion isn't finished the moment it releases, nor are you finished as a player when you complete the raid, or hit max Light – there are more activities for you to experience.
'Festival of the Lost is Destiny's Halloween event, and while this year's event is still somewhat a mystery, it promises to be bigger and better than last year which saw the social space get a spooky overhaul, and Guardians set out to complete quests and earn special Halloween masks in the process.
'Furthermore, there's another tier of difficulty for the raid – challenge mode. Challenge mode requires that particular encounters be completed in a specific way in exchange for yet more loot that you can't get anywhere else. In the case of Wrath of the Machine, challenge mode will be the source for the all-important Raid Ornaments that will alter the way your Raid armour looks which will be the true sign that you have mastered the toughest content the game has to offer.
'Then looking forward to December, Sparrow Racing League – SRL for short – is set to make a return, once again bigger and better than before. When first introduced, SRL gave Guardians something to do with their Sparrows other than simply getting from point A to point B out in the open world. SRL was a racing game mode that saw players compete in a number of courses around the galaxy to earn reputation and prizes along the way and it's making a return in Rise of Iron.
'So in summary, there's a lot to do if you're jumping into Rise of Iron for the first time, and if you're someone that has been there from the moment the expansion went live, then there's more for you to experience before the year is out.'

How to get the Year 3 Thorn
Sadly, to get the Year 3 Thorn you'll have to wait and hope to heck that you receive the coveted Year 3 Thorn when handing in other kinds of bounties, rather than being able to trigger the specific Exotic quest.
According to Redditor SteviaSteve, you shold visit Shiro-4 on Felwinter Peak to take on Iron Lord bounties as that's your best best.
When you have received the Exotic bounty and start the Thorn Exotic quest, you should do the following:
Step 1: Echoes of Darkness
Face 'The Wretched Eye' and defeat Kovik, the Devil Splicers' high priest.
There doesn't seem to be a difficulty requirement.
Step 2: Harvest of the Lesser
Wipe out Fallen in the Plaugelands to feed the weapon's appetite.
You'll need to take out several hundreds of Splicers for this.
Step 3: Feast Upon the Light
Use Void Damage to defeat Guardians in the Crucible.
Thankfully there doesn't seem to be any penalties for deaths or losses, but you do need to kill around 125 players or so to complete this.
It seems private matches won't count towards the total for this Exotic quest.
Step 4: Cleansed by The Light
Consume Motes of Light to Cleanse yourself and the weapon.
You'll need five Motes for this, so if you haven't got enough, earn XP, play Crucible matches or grab cash in engrams.
Step 5: Where it Began
Find a Skeleton Key and open the Strike Hoard at the end of 'The Abomination Heist' Strike.
Destiny Rise Of Iron Max Light Level 3
How to get the Year 3 Gjallarhorn
In order to nab yourself the Year 3 Gjallarhorn, you'll have to complete a quest called Echoes of the Past.
It'll pop up on your quest log as soon as you enter Felwinter Peak, but you'll have to complete the Rise of Iron questline first by speaking to Shiro and Tyra after the Iron Tomb mission.
When you're ready, here's what you'll have to do in the Echoes of the Past quest:
1. Get a Splicer Key
In Rise of Iron, Slivers will randomly drop Splicer Keys in the Plaguelands. In order to progress in Echoes of the Past, you'll need one of these keys, although it won't tell you as such in the quest log.
We had the most success in Archon's Keep for nabbing Splicer Keys.
2. Complete an Anomaly patrol mission at Archon's Keep in the Plaguelands
When you get to Archon's Keep, check you Ghost for any nearby patrol mission icons – they'll be marked with dinky Ghost symbols, just like Scan patrols.
Use your nice new Splicer Key to get through the bate, battle a Fallen Walker and then reach the Anomaly.
3. Collect Iron Medallions for the Beauty of Destruction Quest
When you've done both of those, return to Felwinter Peak and speak to Saladin first and then Tyra.
The pair of them will charge you with collecting Iron Medallions, which are scattered across Felwinter Peak, the Plaguelands and the Wretched Eye Strike and pretty tricky to find.
The guys over at vg247 have found them all though, so check out their guide.
4. Complete the Symbol of Honor mission
This mission is found within the Crucible map, Bannerfall. You'll be directed to it in the Navigator pane after handing in the Beauty of Destruction Medallions, and it'll start with you having to scan several different areas – a la Destiny.
As you'd expect, you'll need to defend two different zones from Splicers until a time runs out – watch out for the exploding Shanks.
Finally, you'll be tasked with taking out a huge Splicer Captain.
5. Find five Dormant SIVA clusters
Speak to Tyra again to unlock the next step, which is finding Dormant SIVA Clusters.
These are a new type of collectible in Rise of Iron and there are load scattered through each area.
6. Complete the Beauty in Delivery mission
Finally, speak to Saladin to unlock the Beauty in Delivery mission.
You'll be sent to the Cosmodrone for some Splicer battling where you'll have to avoid damage from mines.
After this, you'll end up on the Frontier Crucible map. It's time to defend your Ghost some more, this time against waves including Captains with Shock Cannons.
How to get Splicer Keys quickly
The clever folk that play Rise of Iron have already discovered a quick and easy way to nab Splicer Keys.
Reddit user and YouTuber MeowzaForceGaming has found a way to actually farm Splicer Keys on the Plaguelands. Go to the Plaguelands patrol area and kill the Brood Wizard, who's an Elite Hive unit.
It seems that this wizard ALWAYS drops a Splicer Key and it's not just for you. Every Guardian that even damages will get one.
After you've slayed him – or if someone's already bopped him before you get there – go back into orbit and come back down again.
There's a Gjallarwing Sparrow Easter Egg
Anyone who pre-ordered Rise of Iron nabbed themselves the pretty swish Sparrow – the Gjallarwing.
However, it doesn't just look cool, it also came with a Gjallar-horn that has a little Easter Egg hidden in the toot. When you do so, a whole wolf pack can be heard howling along with you.
Where to find Skeleton Keys
Skeleton keys are Strike-specific items that you can spend at the end of Heroic Strikes to obtain that Strike's unique item, rather than simply leaving it up to chance.
They're obtained in a few ways:
- Completing the None are Perfect quest line, including Sepiks Perfected Strike
- Occasionally they drop when completing Strikes in Rise of Iron
The longer you play, the more likely they are to drop and the rumour is that running Strike playlists increases your chances of getting a Skeleton Key.
How to get to Light Level 385 quickly
The excellent Youtuber Rick Kackis or KackisHD has worked out the best way to raise your Light Level as quickly as possible for the Wrath of the Machine Raid.
There are three excellent ways to do this:
1. Make sure your gear is always the highest level possible
You might not want that Blue Pulse rifle, but if it's got a better Light Level than your current weapon then switch it out straight away. The higher the Light Level of your gear, the higher the Light Level of the loot that you'll drop. Then you can keep upgrading your Light Level by simply swapping out gear as it drops.
2. Decode Engrams at the Cryptarch better
Instead of going to the Cryptarch and decoding like 10 blue Engrams at once, you should decrypt one Engram at a time and then go and check what Gear you got.
If you've nabbed some Gear that's higher than your current Light Level, you should put it on straight away. That's because, if you've got higher light level gear on, the rest of your decrypted Engrams will drop Gear that's of an even higher Light Level than before.
3. Play through the SIVA Class Strike Playlist
To help you gain Light Levels quickly, you should be playing through the new SIVA Class Strike Playlist in Rise of Iron, starting with the 320 Light Level Playlist and then the 350 Light List as soon as you possibly can.
Stirke Playlists have always been, and always will be, the fastest way to up your Light Level, because you're pretty much guaranteed two lots of Blue Gear just for beating the strikes – plus Engrams on top of that.
There are also a ton of Strike exclusive loot pieces that you get just for doing Strikes.
Bungie won’t be repeating the debacle of Year One weaponry being rendered obsolete for Year Two of Destiny. According to Bungie game director Christopher Barrett who spoke to Mashable about the upcoming expansion Rise of Iron, items at the current Light level can be infused to the new Light level.
“So Infusion is staying around. The stuff that you have now that you like and love, you’ll be able to bring up to the new power level, the new Light level.”
Infusion was modified significantly with the April Update, allowing players to bestow the maximum possible Light to their item of choosing. Earlier, you had to infuse multiple higher Light level items into a single weapon or piece of Gear to bring it up to the max Light level.
So instead of infusing several guns into your Hung Jury to bring it to Light level 320, you now only need to infuse one 320 Light level gun to achieve the same result. Barrett confirmed that this 1:1 infusion wouldn’t be changing.
This will be good news for players who have high tier rolls on some weapons and want to continue using them when Rise of Iron releases on September 20th for PS4 and Xbox One.

I know there have been a few other light level guides lately, but they make it seem more complex then it needs to be. This is a quick, simple to the point guide, with an Exotic engram farming guide as well.
:
Below 350 light
First use a legendary engram and 5k glimmer for a class item from Variks or Shiro. If you don't have an engram, wait to get one to drop. Then use legendary marks on a ghost from the vanguard or crucible (ghosts are cheaper there then they are at the factions) and gauntlets or leg armor. You can get 15 legendary marks from the first public event you complete on each character, which means you can now get 75 marks a day, plus the weekly marks. If you have done your Kvostov and Gally quests then you have two 350 weapons as well.
:
350-365 Light
Farm Omnigul, fastest way to get 365. You don't have to do the 350 weekly version, you can select the strike from the map and change difficulty to 320.
If you don't want to do that, farm 320 level strikes until you are comfortable enough to farm 350s. Even then, 350s will only give more rep and 'maybe' higher skeleton key drop rates. Try to get 3 of everything at 365, so you can send the other 2 to your other characters.
:
After getting 365
Strike rewards (skeleton key chests)
Packages from factions, vanguard, crucible, gunsmith, and the queen.
Exotic engrams
Nightfall rewards
Crucible rewards and weekly bounty reward
Archons Forge rewards (just class armor I think, trying to get more perfected offerings to see if anything else is higher)
Raid drops
:
When decoding engrams (even blues) make sure you are at your highest light incase one turns exotic. When this happens it would be high light just as if it was a normal exotic engram.
When decoding exotic engrams or deciding what kind of package to get, pick which ever item is your current lowest light (for packages, if you have one weapon low, but two or more armor at your current light or less, then get armor).
Don't decrypt an Exotic engram for an item unless it matches your overall light or is lower then your overall light. Example, if you are 365, and you have 366 primary, then save your primary exotic engram until you are 366-368 light level.
:
Best way to get exotics? Follow this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_o8iuMAtP8 :
Load up on 3oCs, then go to the Iron Tomb mission. Get to the end and pop a coin. Grab the axe and kill the first boss to spawn two more of them. Pop another coin before killing each one. When the three are dead, run up the stairs and out of the door you came in, jump off to the right. You will get to kill all 3 again, and keep using your coins. Drop rates are the same as other farming methods as each one is a different ultra.
:
Getting an Artifact
Most consistent way to get a high light artifact is by ranking up Eris Morn (have to be rank 5 or higher). Another way is run a strike on 320 difficulty and use a skeleton key, hoping you get one. And doing the raid has a couple opportunities to drop artifacts.
